Aviation Medicals

In Canada, every commercial or private pilot and air traffic controller is required to undergo a regular routine medical examination, performed by a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME) in order to validate and exercise the privileges of their license. These examinations are conducted in accordance with the aviation medical standards established by Transport Canada.

Depending on the type of permit or license required, the examinations are categorized as follows:

  • Category 1: Commercial Pilots
  • Category 2: Air Traffic Controllers
  • Category 3: Private Pilots and Students
  • Category 4: Recreational (glider, ultralight).

During the examination, our ELNA aviation medical team may perform the following:

  • Complete physical examination
  • Eye examination
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Urine test

Our professionals operate in accordance with the Aeronautics Act and Canadian Aviation Regulations. Under these regulations, we are required to file a report with the Minister of Transport when a patient has a medical condition that may affect aviation safety.

Immigration Medical Exam

This exam takes about 30 minutes, depending on your age and health status, and is performed in order to obtain a general idea of your overall health, and to determine whether you may have any major underlying health concerns.

The CIC may require you to undergo an IME if you fall into one of these groups:

  • Temporary Residency over six months
  • Permanent Residency
  • Student Visa
  • Worker Visa
  • Visitor Visa.

Our doctors are specially certified to perform these exams. Please note, however, that all decisions regarding your status are made by the CIC. You will be contacted in writing if your medical review reveals an issue.

Please be sure to bring the following to your immigration health examination:

  • Your CIC medical report form
  • Valid photo identification
  • Any medication you are currently taking.
  • Glasses or contact lenses, if applicable.
  • Medical reports, test results, or a list of any medical conditions that require treatment from a medical specialist.

All costs relating to the medical examination are payable on-site. If your request is refused after the medical examination, you will not be reimbursed for any fees incurred.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Pediatric occupational therapists focus their efforts on helping children develop basic independent skills including dressing, eating, writing, exercising self-control, and learning proper use of their hands, arms, and legs.

Childhood is a time for development, exploration, and play. Some children may face obstacles that prevent them from reaching their full potential.

Your child may require a consultation with pediatric occupational therapist for one of the following reasons:

  • Difficulty communicating and interacting with others
  • Difficulty orienting themselves in time or space
  • Difficulty eating
  • Lack of coordination in sports activities (lack of balance, difficulty catching a ball, frequent falls)
  • Difficulty handling small objects or using tools such as pencils and scissors
  • Difficulty gaining independence in daily activities such as dressing, feeding, hygiene, and toilet training
  • Difficulty recognizing or copying shapes, doing puzzles, building with blocks
  • Difficulty with reading, math, writing, and pencil grip
  • Difficulty making friends, functioning in a group, understanding social rules, etc.

If your child has difficulty with any of the above, our occupational therapists are here to help. Our clinics were designed with your child’s comfort in mind and staffed by a dedicated team of professionals with experience helping children develop the skills they need to grow.

What happens during a consultation with a pediatric occupational therapist?

First consultation
During the first consultation, you will fill out a questionnaire about your child’s history (pregnancy and delivery process, complications and associated illnesses, motor skills to date, habits, etc.) and another one about your child’s sensory system.

Your occupational therapist will assess your child to determine the problem. Once the evaluation is complete, your occupational therapist will explain the results and provide you with advice and exercises you can do at home. Your child’s treatment plan is a team effort, and your involvement is crucial.

At the end of your first session, we will establish the frequency and approximate duration of the prescribed treatment plan. On average, these appointments usually take about an hour.

Follow-up appointments

During follow-up visits, your occupational therapist will go over the exercises you have done at home and adjust them according to your child’s progress. If you have any concerns, do not hesitate to ask.

If necessary, the occupational therapist may refer your child to a physiotherapist, osteopath, pediatrician, orthopedist or another specialist on our multidisciplinary team.

What happens during a consultation with a child psychologist?

First consultation
Your first appointment is an evaluation meeting. The psychologist will ask you and your child questions to better understand the issue they are experiencing, and assess their psychological functioning. The psychologist will also be able to tell you whether the challenges your child is experiencing are normal or whether they require follow-up. In all cases, they will discuss their recommendations tailored to your child’s needs. Visits normally last between 50 and 60 minutes.

Follow-up appointments
During follow-up sessions, our professionals forge an atmosphere of trust and work with your child to find solutions. The number and frequency of follow-up visits will depend on your child’s situation. Follow-up appointments last around 50 minutes.

What happens during a pediatric consultation?

Doctors recommend that newborns be seen as follows: at 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 18 months, and 2 years of age. During these visits, your doctor will examine your child’s growth and development. They will also ask questions about your child’s eating and sleeping habits and will make sure that they are up to date with their vaccinations.

During your visit, feel free to ask any questions and share any concerns you may have. Our doctors are here to listen and provide you with sound advice.

Please note that some visits may be combined with a vaccination, depending on your child’s vaccination schedule.

An annual visit should be sufficient for children aged 2 years and older. In the event of sickness, you can always schedule a same-day emergency appointment with their doctor.

Pediatric Physiotherapy

A consultation with a pediatric physiotherapist may be required for any of the following reasons:

  • Your child keeps their head turned or tilted to one side on a regular basis
  • They have difficulty turning their head evenly on both sides
  • They have a flattened head
  • You notice an asymmetry in your child’s posture, movement, or gait;
  • You notice a significant delay in development or coordination compared to other children their age
  • Your child seems to be clumsy when playing sports or has difficulty with coordination activities, etc.

If your child shows signs of one or more of the conditions listed above, or you have any concerns about your child’s development, schedule an appointment with one of our pediatric physiotherapists.

Our caring physiotherapists have extensive experience assessing and monitoring babies, toddlers, and teens, and are here to provide you with invaluable advice to promote better motor development. They can detect a number of pathologies, motor issues (neuromuscular, postural, bone structure problems, and malformations), and congenital diseases (torticollis, muscle weakness, coordination and balance difficulties, atypical gait, delayed global motor development, postural deficits, and cerebral motor deficiency).

Your child will receive personalized treatment to help improve function, movement, strength, and motor skills. Our clinics also offer standardized pediatric tests to assess motor skills in newborns, as well as school-aged and preschool children.

What happens during a pediatric physiotherapy consultation?

First consultation
During your first consultation, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire about your child’s medical history, including questions about your pregnancy, any complications, previous illnesses, your child’s motor development, etc.

The physiotherapist will then proceed with their evaluation and provide advice and exercises that you can do at home with your child. Our treatment plan is a team effort, and your involvement is critical, as is ensuring that your child follows through with the prescribed exercises. At the end of your first consultation, we will establish the frequency and approximate duration of treatment. Please allow between 45 and 60 minutes for your appointment.

Follow-up visits
During follow-up visits, your physiotherapist will review the prescribed exercises and adjust them according to your child’s progress. Be sure to watch carefully in order to repeat these exercises at home.

If necessary, your child’s physiotherapist may refer them to an occupational therapist, osteopath, pediatrician, physiatrist, orthopedist or other professionals on our multidisciplinary team.
