Preparing for your first appointment

Your first pregnancy follow-up appointment takes place around eight weeks after your last period.

To prepare, make sure you keep track of your pregnancy symptoms and have a list of the prescription and over-the-counter medications you are taking, as well as any questions you may have.

Consultations with an obstetrician do not require a referral from your doctor and are covered by your provincial health insurance plan. You can also choose to go to a private practice for pregnancy monitoring or any other related service.

Monitoring newborn babies

An initial examination of the newborn is carried out immediately after birth. Regular appointments are then scheduled to monitor growth and general development and to administer vaccinations.
