Dr. Deal completed her second term as Chief of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the CHU Sainte-Justine where she worked since 1992 as a Pediatric Endocrinologist, and as a tenured Professor of Pediatrics with the Université de Montréal. She became an Emeritus Professor at Université de Montréal in 2021 and is still very active in local, national and international teaching in the field of pediatric endocrinology. She has been a member of ELNA Pediatrics Tiny Tots since August 2021.
Dr. Deal co-edited the first comprehensive textbook on maternal-fetal and neonatal endocrinology and has published over 150 articles and 200 abstracts, in addition to presenting over 200 lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Deal has also been President of the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, a Council Member of the Growth Hormone Research Society, the Training Director for the Royal College Program in Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Université de Montréal, the Site Director for the Pan-Canadian Child Health Clinical Scientist Training Program at the CHU Ste-Justine and a Council Member of the International Society of Endocrinology.
Dr. Deal’s research interests focus on growth and the growth hormone axis. She has also contributed to the explanation of molecular defects associated with a variety of rare pediatric endocrine disorders and has been involved in clinical trials and the development of clinical practice guidelines aimed at improving outcomes in endocrine disorders such as short stature, early puberty, congenital hypothyroidism, congenital hypopituitarism/GH deficiency, autoimmune polyglandular syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, and Turner syndrome/SHOX deficiency.
She is not only involved in clinical practice, but also in research and teaching enabling her to be more proficient in her field. Her priority has always been the well-being of the patients and families she cares for, and nothing gives her more satisfaction than seeing her patients go home with a smile!
