Dr. Makan was born in Ermelo, South Africa. After an approved internship at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine at the University of Natal, he earned his medical degree in 1991. He worked as a medical officer in the departments of obstetrics and gynecology gaining invaluable professional experience. He later worked as a general practitioner in the city of Durban.
In 2001, Dr. Makan immigrated to Canada with his wife and two sons. He worked in a rural town in Twillingate, Newfoundland. He then worked as a physician and as a doctor on call for emergencies. Dr. Makan has been working in Calgary since 2007. He is interested in family medicine because it allows him to build relationships with his patients at different stages of their lives. His goal is to keep them healthy. When he is not working, Dr. Makan enjoys travelling and reading historical novels.
