Biography

Dr. Basalom is a distinguished double board-certified clinical geneticist with extensive clinical experience. She refined her expertise through rigorous residency and fellowship training at McGill University and her practice at the University of Saskatchewan. A true pioneer in her field, Dr. Basalom established the first genetics community clinic in at Brunswick Medical Center in Québec.

Dr. Basalom is deeply committed to helping her patients, who travel from all over Quebec and represent all age groups. She dedicates time to listen attentively to their medical histories and addresses their concerns with genuine care and expertise.

Dr Shuaa Basalom offers diagnostic and counselling services:
  • Pediatric genetic disorders: congenital anomalies (structural malformations at birth), hearing loss, developmental delays and intellectual disabilities (speech, motor and cognitive skills).
  • Genetic conditions in adults: hereditary cancer syndromes (breast, ovarian, colorectal cancer, Lynch syndrome, etc.), cardiovascular disorders, neurodegenerative disorders (Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease).
  • Pre-conception genetic counselling: assessment of family history, carrier screening for cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy and other diseases.
  • Connective tissue disorders: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), Marfan syndrome. Genetic syndromes: rare genetic disorders.
  • Pharmacogenetics: management and optimisation of drug therapies.
Outside of her professional endeavours, Dr. Basalom cherishes time with her four children and participates in wellbeing retreats and workshops.
