BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Questions about iron infusions?

Who might benefit from an iron infusion?

Iron infusions may be an option for adults with confirmed iron deficiency, with or without anemia. Before recommending treatment, your doctor will consider whether oral iron supplements are working, how well you tolerate and absorb them, and any ongoing blood loss.

Will I need an infusion?

Not necessarily. Your doctor will recommend an infusion only if it’s appropriate for you. If you don’t need an infusion, you’ll pay only for the $575 assessment package. Allow 20 minutes for your consultation with a health care provider, plus time to have your blood drawn. You won’t need to set aside any extra time for an infusion.

Why do some infusions take longer?

The type of iron preparation and the prescribed dose affect how long an infusion takes. Your care team may also use a slower rate based on your medical assessment. If you have a reaction, they may pause the infusion and, if it’s appropriate to continue, restart it more slowly.

How long will my appointment take?

The 1-hour and 1–3-hour options refer to infusion time only. You’ll also need to stay for observation afterwards. Our team will let you know how much time to set aside for your appointment. You may need more than one infusion.
